Pros:  Fantastic range on full frame camera & built like a rock
Cons:  Is very heavy and slow in low light conditions

I purchased this lens specifically to be used for wedding photography.
In theory, it should have to be the perfect wedding lens. However, the simple facts are that it just isn't practical as a main lens for weddings that have varied light conditions and it isn't comfortable to hand hold for long periods of time.
Having used a 70-200mm F2.8LIS lens a couple of times, I can see why that is one of the most popular lens choices for the majority of wedding pros shooting with Canon gear.
With the 70-200, you get half the weight and twice the speed! Granted, you still need another lens to cover the wide 28-70mm range, but it's much healthier for you to carry another smaller lens than to have to lug around the 28-300mm!

There are some situations where the 28-300mm is extremely useful and it is in a studio environment with controlled lighting where it stands out.
I have used the lens in the studio on several occasions and the beauty of having it on a full frame body is that it's a great combination. When used on a 5d or any of the other pro Canon bodies, the quality of the 'L' optics are obvious. For a lens with this range it's sharp enough for most discerning professionals.

To sum up this lens; the range and sharpness are great, but if you're planning to hand hold, don't do it for too long and make sure it's not in low light conditions! It does make for an awesome studio lens though and I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a multi-purpose studio lens.
