Pros:  Sharp! Lightweight, great build, great contrast, fast AF
Cons:  No IS, IS version is very expensive

Buy this lens! Now. The Canon 70-200mm f/4L is the best value in photography and is a highly versatile lens for many situations. I purchased mine for $595 on rebate from B&H, and couldn't be happier. I originally bought a used copy of the lens off ebay for $550, which had major sharpness issues at 200mm. I'm happy to report my new copy is tack sharp wide open at all focal lengths. Contrast, CA control, and flare are all well controlled. AF is wonderful, fast and accurate. Build quality is excellent, with a combination metal and plastic barrel and smooth focus and zoom rings. Bokeh is pretty good, not great. Highly recommended!

Pros:  Sharp at the long end. Light
Cons:  no IS

Sold this to get the IS version: mistake!

This is sharper at the long end ( where I used it most) than the IS version. The IS version is sharper at the short end.

Great lens all round;)

Pros:  Stunningly sharp lens.
Cons:  67mm filter thread relatively rare.

First L lens, and I'm hooked if they're all this good. Excellent build quality, very sharp images, and brilliant colour and contrast, straight out of the camera. Also excellent value for money, because it's not *that* much out of the L lenses, but you get so much.

Pros:  quality, build and price. lightweight.
Cons:  cant complain

it was my first L glass and i wasnt disappointed.
zoom ring goes very smooth. if i have a studio (someday) it'd be most used lens with 5d. but if you shoot performances then get f2.8 lens instead.

Pros:  Build, IQ, AF speed, FTM.
Cons:  Slow, but you get what you pay for.

I only had this lens for about a week, so take my experiences with a grain of salt. Very fast AF speed, and very accurate. Love the feel of it, and it definately inspires confidence. I only wish i was a little cheaper. For a relatively slow zoom lens without IS 600 is kind of a lot. If it were 85 bucks less maybe i'd consider rebuying, but i don't use it much so i can live without it. But if you don't need a fast lens and want the best IQ for a zoom, this is the lens for you. Amazing IQ, great build, nothing bad about it really, considering you get what you pay for.

Pros:  image quality, build
Cons:  slower af than some Ls

A great affordable and lighter alternative to its bigger 70-200 brothers if one doesn't need the fast glass or IS. Super portrait lens as well.
