Pros:  Great full frame lens, all the benefits of a fast prime, controllable & defined flare
Cons:  Focal length ALL wrong for APS-C, hood? what hood?

Listen, If you've got a crop sensor camera, don't bother buying this. While an excellent overall lens, for APS-C, there is just NOTHING great to justify the expenditure (unless you can find a helluva deal!), the length is just ALL wrong. Just saying. It's both to wide for focused drama, and to long for any WA drama, at the same time!

Guess that's why I've never met a 40-45mm prime for 35mm

OTOH, for the FF crowd it's a must have until you're ready to drop $1500+ on a 24mm/1.4L, it actually has (some) bokeh, which is pleasing, and proper USM to control it.

I even find the flare to be placeable, defined and controlled even at f2 (doesn't wash out the image, or affect the rest at all) which is more than I can say for 99% of zooms, and most primes.

I like it, and like it a lot. I also take it places I'd never take the 24-70 2.8 (size + cost risk).
