Pros: price, sharpness, f2,8, colors, lightweight
Cons: poor build, slow focus, noisy drive, seeks in darker conditions
i bought it for 10d because of my budget and i heard alot of positive about it.
for its price glass performs very well. after calibration it's felt better in hand. i compared that lens to my copy of ef24-70L and i didnt see in L twice more image quality.
i'd say great optics in poor budget shell with slow drive. nice for portraiture.

Pros: Sharp lens
Cons: Focus not 100% reliable
This is a really good constant F2.8 aperture lens for the hobbyist who doesn't need a wide angles on a crop body (ie 40D/Xt). For buildings and landscapes you'll probably want wider, but for portraits it's a good lens.
I used this lens for weddings for a year or so, but it missed focus for simple group photos just a little too often, so I moved to Canon. For non-critical photography it's still a good option, and I still use the lens when I photograph models, as the 75mm range is good for people.
