Pros: Feel in hand, image quality
Cons: None
This is my 1st DSLR and I am very happy with it. I've had it for 18 mos. and it does all I ask of it.

Pros: Excellent starter SLR, 2 wheels plus joystick are of huge value, ISO 1600 quite usable, build/size
Cons: Autofocus may not be absolute tops - it works for me though. Hmm, that's about it.
Purchased camera body refurbished for a pretty measly price (adorama.com). This is my first DSLR but I've been into photography for quite some time. I am so glad I did not get a Rebel series camera. The build and ergonomics of the 30D is worth it alone. Not only that but you have better ISO, higher framerates, better viewfinder, and the wheels/joystick controls.
I couldn't recommend this camera enough for anyone looking to take great photos and grow their skills. I also recently did a test print and blew up a 16x20. I thought it wouldn't be that great but at 8MP it's a definite wall hanger. Don't be fooled by lack of 10 or 12 MP.
Highly recommended!

Pros: Easy to use, great image quality in most situations
Cons: Occasionally unreliable
I really like my 30D. And if I hadn't just bought a 40D, I'd still think the 30D was the cat's meow. The 40D is definitely a much better camera, but if you're just getting into the business or you're using it as a second body or a backup, the 30D is a terrific camera.
My 30D occasionally freezes up when I'm reviewing images, especially if I'm going through and deleting images individually on the camera or trying to select "delete all" - it seems to just freeze and stop and I have to take the battery out and put it back in again to get it working.

Pros: Enough features for pro use at consumer prices
Cons: Dim viewfinder read-out, 40D is a worthy replacement ;-)
I've been using dual 30D's since "going pro" 12-18 months ago. Neither of them have missed a beat.
I use both of them gripped and have been pleased with how they feel. The buttons and dials are all in the right places and I can comfortably shoot in manual mode for all but the fastest-changing light.
The only gripes I have are with the viewfinders (one of mine in particular doesn't illuminate the exposure needle etc. brightly enough) and with the AF... I just wish it did a slightly better job of tracking moving objects.
Otherwise, they're great cameras. I'll be keeping them when I pick up a set of 40D's ;-)

Pros: Good image quality, fast to use, large screen
Cons: Reliability, menus
The 30D is pretty much the 20D with a bigger screen and spot metering. The image quality's exactly the same, but the bigger screen is helpful. Like all cameras in the 20D/30D/40D series reliability is good, but occasionally it fails under pressure.
The 40D is a decent upgrade, a no-brainer for pros. If photography's a hobby you can find the 30D for a good price, grab it.
