Pros: You can pick them up cheap now
Cons: Compared to the newer digitals, it's sloooooow
I bought the 300D in 2004 and happily used it until the spring of 2007. I replaced the shutter once, in December 2006 - I just plain wore it out. I mainly used the camera for my journalism career, where it performed reasonably well for the simple tasks I asked of it.
The XT, XTi and XSi are all far better cameras. I would only recommend a 300D for the very, very beginning stages of photography or for someone who wants decent images but doesn't want to spend a lot of cash.
I use a 40D and 30D for my shoots, but keep the 300D in my trunk just in case. My husband enjoys messing around with it as well, since I won't let him play with my good cameras.
